The Maldives in a chain of twenty six atolls over one thousand islands, reefs, sandbanks, coral flats and lagoons renowned for one of the best places to fish with a vast variety of marine life. Fishing is the bloodline of the country and is directly related to tourism.

Our waters are home to an abundance of marine life and thousands of species of fish. We are very fortunate to have an environment that’s at hands reach and can cast lures from 0.5 grams to over 1.8 kg,ranging from small Mackerel, Snappers and species of Trevallies that roam the in-shores. On the other hand, anglers looking for a hard fight , offshore angling for pelagics such as the sail fishes, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Dog Tooth Tuna and Barracudas are an experience not to be missed . Deep water fishing for large groupers, Ruby snappers has also become quite a game nowadays. For the prestigious fly fisher the giant Trevallies, Trigger fishes and Bone fishes, Permits are game on the flats.

Jigging And Popping

Jigging and Popping are the main type of sports fishing in the Maldives. Chasing larger species such as Amberjack, Barracuda, Red Bass, Giant Trevally and YFT, the king of pelagics. Naturally Maldives offers infinite opportunities to jigging and popping as offshore pelagic species are close by . Casting for GT and YFT are the most popular targets.Deep water jigging has taken more recently and deep water jigging for large groupers, Oil fishes, Pomfret and Redruby snappers are a favorite.

Big Game Fishing

Fishing was listed as an excursion activity and as tourism started to boost, a new genre of tourism was born and immediately caught the attention among professional anglers. Maldives is one of the best destinations for big game fishing as we have round the year fishing and a number of species to target starting from Marlins, Sailfish, Wahoo, Yellowfin tuna and Mahi Mahi.
